HEALTH & WELLNESS COACHING

Health & Wellness Coaching is an evidence-based, client-centered, future-oriented process, utilizing a strengths-based approach to facilitate and empower clients to develop and achieve self-determined health and wellness goals. Health coaches serve as a partner in the behavior change process: empowering, supporting, and guiding individuals looking to enhance their well-being through self-directed sustainable and long-lasting changes that align with their personal values.

Over 80% of chronic conditions can be avoided by the adoption of healthy lifestyle changes. Our medical system is currently over-burdened with disease that is preventable through diet and exercise. Most people are aware of what they should be doing, yet find meeting their health goals to be difficult, as their busy and stressful lives already demand all of their time and energy, depleting their motivation to adopt new habits. Health coaching does more than simply empower you to live a healthier and longer life with a lower risk of chronic disease; it supports your autonomy in making choices that are unique and right for you, based on your personal values, so you feel confident in your ability to change your behaviors in order to achieve your goals. For many, it is the missing piece in their health & wellness puzzle!

In partnership with a coach, you will explore opportunities for growth and development, discover your strengths and values, build problem-solving and coping skills, access intrinsic motivations, and develop realistic action steps that are consistent with your vision, informed by treatment plans from your professional healthcare team. Coaches provide unwavering support, guidance, and accountability in a collaborative and compassionate way, navigating the change process with you from start to finish, to help you cultivate lasting healthy habits to lead a more satisfying life. This is achieved by building self-awareness, identifying and tapping into your inner resources, and leveraging your unique strengths to improve perceived weaknesses. Through this process you will grow to approach challenges with courage and resilience: freeing yourself of habits that were holding you back and developing new ones that give you the freedom to be the version of yourself you always imagined, living the life you’ve always wanted.

While coaching services have been offered for centuries, Health & Wellness Coaching is an emerging allied health profession, with the board credential launching in partnership with the National Board of Medical Examiners in 2017 (yes, the same organization that manages assessments of student physicians). National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coaches (NBC-HWCs) are credentialed members of the healthcare industry who are trained in the science of behavior change to the highest standard in the profession, informed by research from top universities including Harvard and UPenn. In order to achieve and maintain the credential, coaches must graduate from an approved training program, complete 50 coaching sessions, pass the board exam, uphold a code of ethics, and participate in continuing education courses.

As a NBC-HWC, Danielle serves as a catalyst for behavior change by employing several theories and modalities including positive psychology, motivational interviewing, self-determination theory, design thinking, the transtheoretical model of change, appreciative inquiry, nonviolent communication, mindful self-compassion, and goal setting.

Sessions:
Danielle offers 1:1 coaching sessions via telephone through HIPAA compliant Zoom. The Initial Session will be 60 minutes, and Check-in Sessions will be 30 minutes long.

Expectations:
Health coaching begins with development of a clear vision, followed by the setting of long-term and short-term SMART goals. Before the Initial Session, clients will be required to complete several intake forms and surveys, which will be reviewed together. In the Initial Session, clients will determine their three month goals. In Check-in sessions, clients will review their progress and set their weekly goals. Openness, honesty, and vulnerability are necessary for coaching to be successful.

Post-Session:
Clients can communicate via the messaging portal on the Healthie platform in-between sessions if there are questions or concerns, and also track their goals.

Frequency:
Although sessions can be scheduled individually, if you are committed to making a change, it is highly recommended to book the three month package as it takes an average of 66 days for a person to form a new habit.
