REIKI

The Usui Reiki system of natural healing is a complementary modality, which allows the healer to bring “universal life force energy” from their hands into the energy field of their client. Originated in Japan, the Usui Reiki Ryoho system was created by Mikao Usui in 1922, and spread to the West by Madame Takata. Currently, over 800 hospitals in the United States offer Reiki as a complementary treatment for patients managing chronic illness, undergoing surgery, and living with cancer. It is a powerful yet gentle form of relaxation and stress reduction that assists the body’s natural healing process and strengthens mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Hands are positioned over chakras to restore balance to the flow of energy centers. Interestingly, the seven chakras overlay the anatomical positions of the main endocrine system glands in the body. This gentle relaxation technique is non-invasive and the only place of the body which receives direct touch is the back of the head/neck. The hands hover over the additional chakras and do not make direct contact with the body. The practitioner does not create this energy themselves, instead they act as a conduit to channel the universal life force energy that surrounds us back into the client. The concept of universal energy that flows through living things has many names across cultures, for example in Chinese medicine it is called qi (chi) and in Indian philosophy it is called prana. Emotions can get trapped in the form of blockages in these energy centers, leading to decreased well-being. Reiki is a very gentle way to remove these blockages and restore the flow of energy, similar to acupuncture or acupressure.

Sessions:
Danielle only performs Reiki in-person. Both Half Sessions (30 minutes) and Full Sessions (60 minutes) are available. If it is your first time receiving Reiki, a Full Session is recommended.

Attire:
All attire is permitted, although clothing that is comfortable to lay down in for a prolonged period of time is recommended. Some clients experience body temperature shifts during a session, so wearing layers such as a tank top and/or bringing a sweater may be supportive. There is no removal of clothing nor direct touch to the body, with the exception of the head and back of the neck.

Expectations:
Each client and each session differ based upon the emotional and energetic needs of the body at that time. Many clients fall asleep during a session, some experience crying, and others occasionally laugh. All reactions are valid and welcome.

Post-Session:
Clients sometimes have an adjustment period post-session. Rest and even napping is recommended, in addition to ample hydration with an electrolyte-rich beverage. Please consider your schedule and book sessions away from important appointments, meetings, and events. Reflective activities such as journaling may be supportive.

Frequency:
Energy shifts sometimes manifest quickly, but often develop over the course of a week. Therefore, booking more than one session weekly is not recommended. Unless undergoing a very difficult experience such as grief or chronic illness, many clients schedule every 4-6 weeks for a regular energetic adjustment.

Safety:
Reiki is safe for people of all ages, including children and pregnant women. It is also an appropriate complimentary treatment for all illnesses and diseases, including cancer. Reiki is a complementary therapy and is not an alternative to conventional medical intervention, please continue to receive treatment from your physician.

Experience:
Danielle received Reiki Level 1 attunements and certification in April 2018 from Noah Hahn at Maha Rose in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Danielle maintains her attunements through regular self-practice of reiki and daily practices of mindfulness, meditation, tai chi, qigong, and gratitude. Additionally, she participates in a variety of energy work techniques including those from Robert Bruce, Barbara Brennan, and Donna Eden.
